Manisa Celal Bayar University (MCBU) has ranked among the fastest-improving universities in sustainability worldwide and in Turkiye, according to the GreenMetric 2025 results, thanks to its remarkable rise in both global and national standings.
A comparison of the 2024 and 2025 GreenMetric rankings—which evaluate the environmental sustainability performance of universities worldwide—shows that MCBÜ has achieved comprehensive and multidimensional progress. The university has distinguished itself not only through its overall performance but also through its strong advancement across individual categories.
MCBÜ climbed from 509th place in the 2024 global ranking to 340th in 2025, marking an extraordinary leap of 169 positions. This result demonstrates that the university’s sustainability strategy is advancing with strong momentum on a global scale.
Nationally, MCBÜ rose from 49th place in 2024 to 36th in 2025—an increase of 13 places—confirming its status as one of the fastest-rising institutions among Turkiye’s top 50 universities.
When the 2024–2025 GreenMetric results are examined together, MCBU recorded its most notable improvements in the following categories:
Water Management (WR): 65 → 22 (+43)
Waste Management (WS): 69 → 52 (+17)
Education (ED): 62 → 47 (+15)
Energy and Climate Change (EC): 29 → 22 (+7)
Transportation (TR): 54 → 48 (+6)
In particular, the 43-place rise in the water management category positioned MCBU as the university showing the greatest improvement in Turkiye in this field. Ranking among the top 22 universities nationally in both energy and water management also indicates MCBU’s progress toward becoming a leader in sustainability at the national level.
All available data demonstrate that MCBU has achieved systematic, comprehensive, and results-oriented improvement not only in specific categories but across all dimensions of sustainability. The university’s determined approach to sustainability policies has clearly translated into measurable success in the GreenMetric 2025 results.
Commenting on MCBU’s achievement, Rector Prof. Dr. Rana Kibar stated:
“The strong rise our university demonstrated in the GreenMetric 2025 results is a great source of pride for all of us. The fact that our sustainability efforts are recognized nationally and internationally shows that we are on the right path. The progress achieved across all categories—especially in water and energy management—is a clear indication that we embrace environmental awareness as an institutional culture. I would like to thank all our academic and administrative staff, our students, and our stakeholders who contributed to this success. As Manisa Celal Bayar University, we will continue our sustainability efforts with determination and continue to create value for our country.”
